Dear friends, supporters, and adventurous listeners,
Last season was our Resurrection season. It marked a return, a renewal, and a reaffirmation of what the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony means to our communities. This year, our theme serves as a powerful metaphor for where we are as an organization: The Journey Home.
In one sense, it particularly embodies our growing return to Centre In The Square - a venue built for Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony performances and a place that feels like home for so many of us.
But I also see The Journey Home as a larger metaphor for the future of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony. When you leave home and eventually return, you don’t return exactly the same person you were when you left. Along the way, you've gained new experiences, met new people, overcome challenges, and learned important lessons. And the home you return to is never quite the same either. The trees are taller, your family is a bit older, and neighbourhoods surrounding you have developed and changed.
Our 2026-2027 journey is not simply about returning to a status quo or a fond image from the past. It's about reconnecting. It's about rediscovering, and it's about renewed potentials that can emerge from connections made under new circumstances. This is where I believe we are today.
In the coming year, you are going to experience an incredible season of KWS orchestra performances from the Raffi Armenian Theatre stage at Centre In The Square and from stages in other venues in our region. You'll see our musicians performing not only in concert halls, but also in libraries, schools, long-term care homes, galleries, museums, cultural institutions, and even places where you might not expect to encounter classical music.
All of our activities are about strengthening relationships in the communities in which we operate. They are about ensuring that orchestral music remains a living, accessible, and meaningful part of community life throughout our region.
We're returning to familiar places. We're building new connections. We're bringing what we've learned with us. And together, we're shaping what the next chapter of this orchestra can be.
Thank you for being part of that journey. Thank you for believing in the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony. And thank you for helping us continue the journey home.
Sincerely,
Jason Doell
Executive Director
Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony
