The station has deep roots, commissioned in 1945 as part of the Coast Guard's Ninth District. Today, it remains active, supporting safety and search-and-rescue missions throughout the Great Lakes region. This twin-engine, all-weather, medium-range recovery (MRR) helicopter is one of the Coast Guard's most vital assets, built to handle search-and-rescue missions, medevac operations, law enforcement support and disaster response across the nation's coastlines and the Great Lakes. With advanced avionics, all-weather performance and medium-range recovery capabilities, the Jayhawk is built to operate in conditions few other aircraft can handle. And with its hard-to-miss orange and white paint scheme, it's just as easy to spot in the sky as it is in a rescue operation.
